DMR and DMR2YSF on Brandmeister: New 4-Part Guide by VK4PQ

Club member Peter Harrex VK4PQ has put together a four-part, step-by-step guide to getting on air with DMR and DMR2YSF on the Brandmeister network — written, in Peter’s words, “by a Ham for Hams”. All four parts are now available in the Resources library under Reference Guides.

The series follows a single working setup from start to finish: a low-cost MMDVM hotspot on a Raspberry Pi running WPSD software, and a TYT MD-UV380 handheld programmed to match. DMR2YSF is the clever extra — a cross-mode link that lets the same hotspot reach Yaesu System Fusion (C4FM) users as well, so you get two digital modes for the price of one.

  • Part 1 — Getting Started
Equipment list, DMR ID and Brandmeister registration, and the software you need
  • Part 2 — Hotspot Setup
Configuring the hotspot, connecting to Brandmeister, and fault-finding the dashboard
  • Part 3 — Radio Configuration
Building the codeplug: contacts, channels and zones, plus the Parrot test and Disconnect commands
  • Part 4 — DMR2YSF
Cross-mode setup, and how dynamic, autostatic and static talk groups affect each mode

Questions are welcome at the club’s Tech on the Air Net, held on the 5th Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm Townsville time on the local 2m repeater, AllStar Node 49806 and Echolink VK4PQ-R. Thanks to Peter for sharing the work with the club.
