Foundation License Course

The Foundation licence is the entry point into Australian amateur radio — it gives you on-air privileges across HF, VHF and UHF and is the natural starting point whether you’re completely new to radio or have been listening for years and want to finally get on air.

How Licensing Works in Australia

Amateur radio licences in Australia are administered by the ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) via its Amateur Radio Assessment and Certification service. Assessment can be done remotely/online or face-to-face with an accredited assessor — there’s no need to sit a government exam in person.

After You’re Licensed

Once you’ve got your Foundation call sign, the club is a great place to keep learning — regular nets to get comfortable on air, an active communications support program for practical experience, and experienced members happy to help with antennas, equipment, and everything in between. Many members go on to upgrade to Standard and Advanced licences as their interest and skills grow.
